Web Technologies We Work With
- Front end: semantic HTML5, CSS3, Flexbox, CSS Grid, Sass, Bootstrap and Tailwind CSS.
- JavaScript: DOM manipulation, events, fetch and async/await, form validation and local storage.
- Frameworks: React, Next.js, Vue and Angular single-page apps with routing and state.
- Back end: Node.js with Express, PHP with Laravel, Python with Django or Flask.
- Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Firebase, connected securely.
- APIs: designing and consuming REST APIs, authentication with sessions or JSON Web Tokens.
- CMS: WordPress themes, custom post types and plugins.
- Quality: accessibility to WCAG 2.2 guidelines, performance, basic SEO and testing.
How We Build Your Website
Your developer starts from the brief, wireframes or Figma design. If there is no design, they sketch a simple layout first so the structure is agreed before any code is written. The site is built mobile-first, so it works on a phone and then scales up to tablets and desktops.
For full-stack projects, the developer designs the database and API routes, then builds the front end against them. Inputs are validated on both the browser and the server, passwords are hashed and common security issues such as SQL injection and cross-site scripting are handled. Before delivery the site is checked in several browsers and screen sizes and run through an accessibility checker.
Accessibility and Responsive Design
Many web units now include accessibility in the rubric. That means proper headings, labels on every form field, enough colour contrast, keyboard navigation and alt text on images. Our developers follow the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and explain the key choices in the walkthrough. The MDN Learn web development guides are an excellent reference for every technology on this page.
Typical Web Development Assignments
Static and multi-page sites
A portfolio, small business or tourism site that tests HTML structure, CSS layout and responsive design. We keep the CSS organised and reusable.
Interactive JavaScript projects
Quizzes, calculators, games and dashboards that test events, the DOM and fetching data from an API.
Full-stack web apps
Booking systems, online stores, forums and task managers with user accounts and a database. We build the API, the front end and the database, with seed data so your marker can try it quickly.
WordPress projects
Custom themes and plugins for content-managed sites, built the WordPress way so the client can edit content without touching code.
Deployment and Handover
If your unit asks for a live site, we can deploy to services such as Netlify, Vercel, Render or a student server, or give you exact steps to do it yourself. Otherwise the README explains how to run the project locally, including environment variables and database setup.
Reports and Documentation
Web units often ask for a design document, site map, user testing notes or a reflection. Your developer can write these to match the final site, with screenshots and links to the relevant code.
Mistakes That Lose Marks in Web Projects
Web markers tend to check the same things. Layouts built with fixed pixel widths break on phones. Images without alt text and form fields without labels fail accessibility checks. Inline styles and repeated CSS make the code hard to maintain. JavaScript that adds dozens of separate event listeners, or that stops working when an API is slow, looks unfinished.
On the server side, common problems include storing passwords in plain text, building SQL queries by joining strings, and leaving API keys in the code. Our developers avoid all of these, and the walkthrough points out the safer pattern used in each case so you can apply it yourself.
Learning From the Project
Open the site, use every page, then read the code with the walkthrough beside you. Try changing a style or adding a form field. Please use our work as a model in line with our fair use policy.
Price and Timeline
Small static sites can be ready within two or three days, while full-stack apps usually need five to seven. Send your brief and design files for a fixed price within 30 minutes, with free changes for 15 days. Start your order.
