What Australian Markers Expect From an Essay
Australian essay rubrics usually assess four things: the argument, the use of evidence, structure and expression, and referencing. The strongest essays answer the question directly in the introduction, develop that position paragraph by paragraph and reach a conclusion that follows from the evidence. They engage with the set readings rather than ignoring them, because markers design the question around those readings.
Writing in Australian English
Australian English follows British spelling, such as organise, analyse, colour and centre, with a few local conventions. Your expert uses these by default and avoids American spellings, which some markers penalise as careless. If your unit has a style guide, such as a faculty writing guide, it is followed exactly.
Using Australian Sources and Context
Many essay questions in Australian units ask you to apply ideas to the local context: Australian policy, history, institutions or communities. Your expert draws on Australian sources where relevant, such as government reports, parliamentary research papers and data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, as well as international scholarship.
Referencing Styles
- APA 7th: common in psychology, education, health and business.
- Harvard: used across many faculties, with small differences between universities.
- AGLC4: required in law schools, with footnotes.
- Chicago and MLA: used in some history, literature and humanities units.

Word Limits and Formatting
Most Australian units allow about 10 per cent over or under the word limit, though some are strict. Reference lists are usually excluded from the count, but in-text citations are often included. Your expert keeps the essay within your limit and follows any formatting rules, such as line spacing, font and cover sheet requirements.
Integrity and Turnitin
Australian universities check essays with similarity software and follow the academic integrity standards described by TEQSA. Every model essay is original, delivered with an originality report and intended as a guide to help you write your own essay with confidence.
